LAX Automated People Mover (APM)

Project Summary

The Automated People Mover (APM) at Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) will sit on 2.25 miles of track and connect different terminals and car rental areas, including a link to the LA metro system. Each train will hold four cars, and a trainload could carry up to 200 people and their luggage. The APM will operate on an above-ground track that’s entirely powered by electricity, 98% recyclable, and generates a portion of its power through regenerative braking. The facility generates power from solar energy and is designed to be LEED Gold Certified. Trains will reach top speeds of 47mph, and end-to-end travel won’t take longer than 10 minutes. It will run every two minutes, 24 hours a day, seven days a week, and will be free for all users.
