Rosendin Renewable Energy Group was contracted by Recurrent Energy to design and build the $15 million battery energy storage system (BESS) in Kern County, California. The 88MW/352MWh Garland BESS project was added to the pre-existing 200 MW Garland Solar facility. Garland BESS used Powin batteries to provide four hours of battery storage to the grid, enhancing resource capacity by conserving clean, solar energy to be used during peak demand.
Although Recurrent Energy had solar the Garland Solar project to Southern Power and AIP Management once it was developed, Recurrent agreed to provide development services to add the BESS component, contracting Rosendin to provide EPC services. The Garland BESS project will increase the amount of clean power available on the grid during evening hours, significantly improving the function and utility of the Garland Solar facility.
