The 263,000-square foot facility in Woodbridge will host a number of specialties, including outpatient surgeries, radiology and chemotherapy infusion, according to Rosendin, the firm assisting with electrical construction.
Oakland, Calif.-based Kaiser plans to open the facility in the second quarter of 2022, Jill Yonowitz, the system’s senior director of delivery system planning, said in a statement.
“The forthcoming medical center in Woodbridge is designed to meet the essential outpatient surgery needs of Kaiser Permanente’s growing membership in Northern Virginia, which now includes 250,000 members,” Yonowitz said. “The Woodbridge facility will enable Kaiser Permanente to maintain the integrity of our coordinated, integrated care model, enhance service delivery in an accessible and cost-effective way and maintain financial access to care.”
Woodbridge is roughly 20 miles from Washington, D.C. Kaiser currently operates 13 outpatient facilities in Northern Virginia and a few hospitals as well.
Kaiser has set a goal of doubling its retail clinic network by 2022, although the Woodbridge clinic is not part of that strategy. It’ll offer primary care, specialty care, advanced imaging, nuclear medicine, a clinical laboratory and oncology pharmacies.
Ambulatory surgery centers remain a popular area of investment for health systems, with major companies like Tenet Healthcare, Envision, UnitedHealth Group and HCA Healthcare buying up hundreds of sites each.
The building, Kaiser Permanente South NoVA HUB, will also have an 1,100-space parking garage in addition to parking spaces, a staging area for a farmers’ market, a health park with workout stations and walkways through an existing woodland area.
Other services planned for the facility include nuclear medicine, diagnostic imaging, a clinical laboratory, oncology pharmacies, primary and specialty clinics and a community center.
Kaiser generated $88.7 billion in revenue in 2020 and has 723 medical offices, 39 owned and affiliated hospitals and 56 retail and employee clinics.
